   The time of year to get sick seems to be whenever the sickness wants to appear in my family. Whether it’s flu season or the middle of summer, someone always catches something. With having my first daughter, I tried the ear temperature and I knew it wasn’t accurate but that’s what I had.  Then I had to do the butt temperature when she was little and hated it. With my now 6 month old, I refuse to do the back end Temp again! I can only imagine how uncomfortable it is and I personally don’t like to get pooped on. So I was on the hunt for something better. 
  • HOW TO USE THE EXERGEN THERMOMETER
The following 3-Step Method is a convenient way to demonstrate how to use the temporal artery thermometer when you do not have one to demonstrate:  
  1. Put your index finger on the center of your forehead – slide it in a straight line over to your hairline
  2. Lift your finger off your forehead and touch behind your ear – halfway down the mastoid process (the bone in back of your ear)
  3. Slide your finger down to the little soft depression behind the earlobe.
If you had the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer in your hand, you would have just taken the fastest, gentlest, most accurate temperature in the world

   Finally I saw the Exergen Thermometers. These are not anything like I spook about above. This is a simple, no mess, and quick solution to getting them better. Brings me to think, when trying to hold my babies arm down to take a non-accurate temperature from the armpit was more torture to me because it took like 5 minutes to get a reading. The Exergen is as simple as pressing and holding a button. It takes the temperature by holding the button and moving the front end across the forehead to the temple area. It is Temporal Artery Thermometer. This is suppose to be the most accurate thermometer out there. 
   When having my daughter, I took her temperature from the butt area and it said 103.4, of course I am like we must go to the hospital. So we hope in the car, I am thinking my babies brain is boiling and am so mad it’s so high. We get to the ER and they say no, she only has a 101 temperature. Now, I am feeling dumb and feel like I am a crazy mom and say “I swear it was 103, I took it a ton of times”. They took her temperature with an Exergen thermometer and I argued with them it was 103 and that must be wrong. After all how can a simple swipe of the forehead tell you an accurate temperature. I requested the usual way and said I did not agree. Only to informed me they no longer use the arm pit, under the tongue, and butt methods anymore. I am stunned and still do not believe her, I saw 103 with my own eyes. I let it go and we got some medicine and went home. I trusted the doctors with my child.
   I can now not stop seeing thermometers such as the Exergen and have been wanting one since! The little things make me more sound to sleep and not worry if a temperature trip to the ER is needed when sick. Exergens can be used on anyone from a new born to a sleeping adult. It provides the results by infrared readings of temporal artery blood flow. You do not need to keep buying disposable tops to protect them because they can be cleaned very easily with alcohol, making it a greener product and cost effective. 

   This is the best product I think I will be able to rely on and have it work the way it’s suppose when caring for my kids in a time of need. I have used it so many times already, my husband thinks I am a nut. It is so easy and my 6 month old doesn’t mind, she probably doesn’t even realize what I’m doing. I recommend spending the extra money to get one simple step solution that in time will save you money and precious time for your child. No more holding them down, hurting under the tongue or buying disposable coverings. The Exergen is a reliable, small very effective product. 
It is simply a better step in making sure yourself and children are perfectly perfect!


Interesting test done by Exergen. 
“Infants are analogous to little radiators.  The infant on the left is being held by his father, and just came in from the freezing cold outdoors.  The little blue circle just left of center is his cold little nose.  But, just look at the color of his head.  The red indicates the heat being released from the blood vessels which are constantly dilated, even in the extreme cold.  This is because vasomotor control does not mature until they are around 11 months old.  The fact that we strive to maintain a warm environment for an infant, either by swaddling or by use of an isolette or radiant warmer, bears witness to this analogy.”

  1. I'm a follower! At their site they mentioned that drinking, coughing, talking, or mouth breathing can affect oral temperature taking. That makes sense but I'd never thought about it before. Thanks for the chance! alicedemskehansen at gmail.com

  84. Arterial temperature is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart. It is the best determinate of body temperature.
